I specialize in helping you maintain or build your website using WordPress. I offer options for helping you learn how to do it yourself, or you can get complete turnkey website building services.
Personal WordPress Training
I offer a lot of resources on my site to help you work in WordPress. If you need more guided support, I can work with you or your team one-on-one to help you understand how to manage your own WordPress site.
Personal training is $60/hour, or you can purchase a package of four one-hour sessions for only $200.
WordPress Quick Setup
They call it the Famous 5-minute install. It actually takes a bit longer to get your site configured properly. I can set everything up for you, installing WordPress and some crucial plugins that every site needs to be secure and SEO-friendly. After a walk through and some training, I turn the site over to you to choose a theme, create pages and start posting to your blog. It’s a one-time fee of $240.
WordPress Site Migration
Already have a site but you need to move it to a new host or domain? I can handle it all for you. A single-site WordPress site migration is $599.
WordPress Maintenance Plan
Your website is like a car. If you don’t change the oil and rotate the tires regularly, it won’t last very long. Software needs to be updated, hosting servers can change, and someone needs to keep a lookout for hackers. If you just need someone to manage your site, I can handle that for you for $79/month. Contact me to set this up!
A La Carte Support
I also offer services like posting your blog content or setting up a feature on your existing site. For those services I charge $60/hour, with a 2-hour minimum.
Site from Scratch
I can build you a shiny new website from scratch. Tell me what you need and I’ll get it done for you. Because of the custom nature of these projects, I quote each one individually.
What to expect
When we work together, I’ll let you know up front about how long I think something will take. I’ll keep you updated on progress or let you know if something might take longer than originally planned. I’ll always tell you what’s going on in non-technical terms so you can easily understand. Or, if you’re a techy person, I’ll use my techy words and you’ll feel right at home.
I generally make myself available weekdays from 9am – 5pm PST. I typically respond within a few hours, depending on the urgency of the issue.
What platform will you use to build my site?
It depends on the nature of your site. I can code everything from scratch, but I specialize in developing WordPress sites. I prefer WordPress for dynamic sites (i.e.; blog, membership, or eCommerce). It’s very flexible and user-friendly for you. I also prefer it because it’s open source, which means you own all your content.
I heard that WordPress was dead. Isn’t that old technology?
Currently, ~40% of websites are built using WordPress. The New York Times, The White House, and many lesser-known businesses and media outlets run on WordPress. It’s secure and flexible. You can create any kind of site you want, not just a simple blog – although it’s perfect for that.
Can you build me a SquareSpace site?
I can, but it’s so easy to do without any coding at all that it’s not really worth your money to hire me. I also don’t recommend it because of the proprietary nature of the platform.
How long will it take to build my website?
That depends on the complexity and functionality required. A simple WordPress blog can be up and running in a day or two, while an eCommerce store or membership site can take a couple of months.
Do I need a domain name and web host?
It’s great if you have them, but if you don’t I can get you set up. I’ll register your domain name and set up a hosting account for you. I’ll invoice you for the first month of services, and turn the account over to you for regular billing. I prefer DreamHost, which I’ve been using for over ten years. Their rates are great and their service is very reliable.
Will we be able to post to our blog and update our site ourselves?
Absolutely. Once the site is built, I can train you and your staff to take over the reins. I’m always available for questions and tech support on any site I build. You won’t be left out in the cold!
What do I do if I have an emergency?
Because I let you know up front how long you can expect something to take, there shouldn’t be any emergencies. However, sometimes things happen, like a host’s server going down, and that can certainly feel very urgent when you need your site to be up and running.
In those situations, I’ll do my best to keep you informed and help resolve the issue in a timely manner, but I’m not an emergency room surgeon. If it’s after hours or on a weekend, I may recommend that you first contact your hosting provider’s tech support team. They can usually resolve those server issues much faster than I can, anyway.
